岳阳市总面积1.5万平方公里，总人口528万人。其中，岳阳市城区面积72平方公里，人口76万人。
Geographcally,Yueyang City covers and area of 15000 squares kilometers with a population of 5.28 million including 72 square kilometers of city zone with 760000 million of dwellers.
气候条件 CLIMATE
岳阳市属亚热带季风湿润气候区、气候温和、雨量充沛、四季分明，年平均气温17℃左右，多年平均降雨量1387.93毫米，年平均日照1680小时，无霜期270天。
Yueyang is a wettish area of confienental subtropical monsoon with mild climate,plenty of rainfall and four distinct seasons.Annually,the average temperature is about 17℃,the average precipitation is 1387.93.mm,the average sunlight time is 1680 hours,and the frost-free period lasts 270 days.
矿产资源 MINERAL RESOURCES
岳阳矿产资源丰富，境内蕴藏矿种达60余种，具有工业开采价值的40余种，已探明大型矿床27处，中型28处，小型45处，可供采矿点161处，主要矿种有金、银、铅、锌、铜、钒、独居石、花岗岩、高岭土和矿泉水等。
With rich mineal products, there are more than 60 kinds of ores in Yueyang, more than 40 kinds of minerals that have been exploited or proved to be worth exploiting,27 large-sized beds,28 middle-sized beds and 45 small-sized beds. There are 161 spots are suitable for exploiting, and the main minerals are gold,silver,lead,zinc copper,vanadium,solitary stone,granite,kaolin,mineral water and etc.
土地资源 LAND RESOURCES
岳阳市土地富饶，有宜农耕地33万公顷、宜林地140万公顷、可养殖水面15万公顷，是我国重要的粮、棉、猪、鱼等优质农产品基地。
With a fertile land, Yueyang has 330000 hectares of farming infield,1.4 million herares of woodland and 150000 hectares of aquatics surface. It is an important high-quality primary products base for producing grain,cotton,pig,fish and etc.
水资源 WATER RESOURCES
岳阳市水资源充沛，淡水面积达31万公顷，有利于种植业、淡水渔业和水运业的发展，还为大耗水、大运量的造纸等现代工业提供了良好的基础条件。
With a plentiful of water resources, Yueyang has 310000 hectares of freshwater area. It is in favor of development of planging industry,freshwater fishery and water transportation.It also provides good conditions for paper making industry etc,which need a lot of water and heavy freight volume.
生物资源 BIOLOGY RESOURCES
岳阳市生物资源多样，境内有木本植物1118种，水生物植物131种，鱼类114种。
With various biology resources,there are 1118 kinds of wood-plants, 131 kinds of water plants and 114 kinds of fish.
旅游资源 TOURISM RESOURCES
岳阳是著名的旅游胜地，旅游资源丰富，自然景观、名胜古迹、民俗风情融为一体。全市有旅游景点242处，主要景点有岳阳楼风景区、君山风景区、南湖风景区、屈子祠风景区、张谷英民族文化村、平江起义旧址等。
Yueyang is a famous tour scenic spot with rich tour resources,natural view,historical relics and folk-custom.There are 242 tour scenic spots in the city;the most outstanding among them are Yueyang Tower, Junshan Islet,Nanhu Lake Scenic Spot,Temple of Qu Yuan,Zhang Guying Folkcustom Village and Pingjiang Uprising Sites etc.
经济总量 ECONOMIC GROSS
岳阳市2003年实现GDP493.66亿。其中：第一产业104.66亿元；第二产业209.35亿元；第三产业179.65亿元，三次产业结构依次为21.2 : 42.4 : 36.4。
In 2003,Yueyang realized GDP rmb 49366 million yuan,in which, the primary industry was RMB 10466 million yuan, the secondary industry was RMB 20935 million yuan,the tertiary industry was RMB 17965 million yuan ,and the ratio of the three industries was 21.2:42.4:36.4.
农业 AGRICULTURE
岳阳市农业主要以种植业、养殖业为主。主要农产品有大米、棉花、油菜、甘蔗、茶叶、牲猪、禽蛋、水产品。近年来全市大力推进农业结构调整，农产品规模和品质有大幅度提升。2003年，农、林、牧、渔总产值166.28亿元。
The agriculture in Yueyang is mainly planting industry and aqualtics industry. The main agricultural products are: rice,cotton,cole,vegetable,tea,pig,egg and aquatic products, In recent years, agriculture construction adjustment in the whole city has been strongly pushed forward,and the agricultural products’scale and quality have been greatly upgraded.By the end of 2003, the total output in agriculture,wood,herd and fish was up to RMB 16628 million yuan.
工业 INDUSTRY
岳阳市是一个新兴工业城市，已形成石化、机械、建材、纺织、造纸、食品、饲料等支柱产业，拥有2100多家工业企业，主要工业产品有石油加工、催化剂、SBS、己内酰胺、饲料、棉麻纱、纸、汽车空调、耐氟电机、饲料、肉类制品等。2003年实现工业增加值为180.13亿元。
A new industrial city of Yueyang has formed prtrochemicals,machinery,building materials,textile,papermaking,food and feed etc as its mainstay industries with more than 2100 industrial enterprises. The main products are :crude oil processing,refining catalyst,SBS, caprolactam,cotton ramie yarn,paper,automobile air conditioners,motors for refrigeration compressors,feed and meat products,and etc. By the end of 2003,Yueyang has realized RMB 18013 million yuan of industrial increased value.
商业贸易 COMMERCE TRADE
岳阳市商贸流通发达，商品交易活跃，商业网点密集。全市有各类批发市场30多个，商业及饮食网点2万多个，新兴服务业发展势头良好，连锁专卖、超市经营、大型物流、电子商务方兴未艾。2003年社会消费品零售总额172.3亿元。
Yueyang has developed circulation of business trade ,flourished commodities/bargaining and denseness business net. There are over 30 various wholesale markets and over 20000retail and food services networks.The newly-established business services develop well. Catenation monopolization,supermarket management,large circulation of material and goods and electro commerce are all in the ascendant. By the end of 2003 ,the volume consumable retails is up to RMB 17230 million yuan.

岳阳市自1990年以来，累计利用外资15亿美元，现有三资企业320家，其中有美国普莱克斯、荷兰壳牌、泰国正大等7家跨国公司来我市投资。已与世界80多个国家和地区建立有正常地经贸往来。2003年进出口总额30176万美元，其中出口额18133万美元。
Since 1990s,the foreigh capital utilization has been added up to US$1500 million and 320 foreign capital enterprises have been set up in Yueyang City,including Prax from the USA,Shell from Holland and Chinthai Co.,Ltd.from Thailand seven MNCs.We have established trade relations with over 80 countries and regions in the world. By the end of 2003,the total volume of import and export amounted to US$301.76 million,and the volume of export amounted to US$181.33 million.

Yueyang Economic And Technological Development Zone
岳阳经济技术开发区（高新技术产业开发区）是1992年经湖南省人民政府批准成立的省级重点开发区，规划面积10.8平方公里。目前，全区共完成基础投资10亿多元，实现了水、路、邮、话、网、气等七通一平。商贸区功能齐备，日益繁荣；工业区布局合理，初具规模；留学人员创业园和创业服务中心产业兴盛，发展迅速；统一有效管理功能齐全，精简高效，方式灵活；服务标准不断提高，入区企业蓬勃发展。全区已有来自美国、日本、意大利、马来西亚、泰国、新加坡和港、澳、台等国家和地区以及国内客商300余家，合同总投资近100亿元。初步形成了以生物制药、精细化工、节能环保、农副产品深加工、光机电一体化为支柱的产业体系，为实现开发区超常规、跨越式发展打下了坚实的基础。
Yueyang Economic And Technological Development Zone(Hi-tech Industry Development Zone)is a key provincial-level development zone approved by the People’s Government of Hunan Province in 1992.The planned area of the zone is 10.8km2.At present,the investment of infrastructures has reached RMB 1000 million yuan. Yueyang Nanhu Lake Tourist Holiday Resort
岳阳南湖旅游度假区,位于岳阳市城南,是1992年经湖南省人民政府批准建立的省级开发区。度假区以风光旖旎的南湖为依托，西接洞庭、北连城区、东靠木鱼山、南含龙山和湖滨园艺场，面积38平方公里。其中水域12平方公里。区内建有湖滨高新技术工业园和环南湖旅游走廊，规划设置观光游东、休闲度假、高新技术生态种养、文化东园、空中俱乐部等项目。度假区总的发展思路是：坚持发展国际旅游和高新技术产业为重点，以提高旅游接待水平，增强创汇能力为目标，大力招商引资。目前已引进项目86个，总投资52亿元。
Located at the south part of Yueyang City,Hunan province,Yueyang Nanhu Lake Tourist Holiday Rwsort is a key provincial-level development zone approved by the Peoples/s Government of Hunan Province in 1992. It is close to the Dongting Lake in the west,with the urban area to the north, near Muyushan in the east,overlooking the Longshan Mountain and Hubin Gardening Field in the south. The holiday resort has a territory of 38 square kilometers,of which 12 square kilometers is water.There are Hubin New and High Tech Industries Development Zone and the tourist Corridor Surround the Nanhu Lake in the holiday resort.Six functions have been planned, they are sightseeing,holidays,biological planting and breeding,culture and sports,business and inhabitancy etc.We intend to build International Tourist Holiday Village,Quyuan City,kangle Garden,Garden Villa Area,Fishing Amusement Village,Nanhu Plaza,Water Paradise,Space flight Mould Club and etc.
The plan of holiday resort is to insist on developing international tourist and new hi-tech industries as keystone so as to improve reception level of touristm and strengthen the foreign exchange earning.There are 86 projects,which have been introduced.The total investment has reached RMB 5200 million yuan.
